Runkel an der Lahn (to the website »)

Halfway between Koblenz and Giessen, in the beautiful Lahn Valley, a side valley of the Rhine rich in palaces and castles, which forms the natural border between the Taunus and Westerwald mountains, lies the small town of Runkel with its impressive castle, a prime example of early medieval defensive architecture.

With its charming surroundings, Runkel is the ideal vacation spot for anyone seeking relaxation in the healthy low mountain climate. Runkel is particularly conveniently located as a starting point for the most beautiful excursion destinations in the Westerwald, the Taunus, and along the Lahn River.

Runkel boasts excellent transport links, including the A3, the B49, and the ICE train station, as well as Frankfurt Airport and the larger cities of Frankfurt and Wiesbaden in the Rhine-Main region.

A modern small town, with its surrounding communities, it has much to offer.

Villmar an der Lahn – Center of Lahn marble (to the website »)

Marmorsteinbruch Villmar
Marble quarry Villmar

Villmar and its surroundings are the center of Lahn marble, a polishable limestone highly valued for its rich color. The origin of this limestone dates back far into the Earth’s history, to the Devonian period 380 million years ago.

Lahn marble was probably quarried as early as 2,000 years ago. As a decorative stone, Lahn marble has found widespread use in prominent locations, such as the cathedrals of Mainz, Berlin, and Würzburg, St. Matthias Abbey in Trier, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Moscow subway, the entrance hall of the Empire State Building in New York, and the palace of Maharaja Tagore in India.

The municipality of Villmar consists of the districts of Villmar, Aumenau, Seelbach, Falkenbach, Langhecke, and Weyer.
Villmar lies on the most beautiful stretch of the Lahn River between Marburg and Lahnstein.

Discover Weilburg (to the website »)

Weilburg, with its “Weilburg Palace” and the Orangery with its magnificently manicured palace gardens, is a perfect destination for a day trip.

Depending on the season, there are also the Weilburg Palace Concerts, the beautiful Weilburg Old Town, and various museums.

The International Music Festival at the Residence has long since evolved from an insider tip to a must-see. The incomparable atmosphere of the open-air concerts in the Renaissance courtyard of the Upper Palace, the ambience and acoustics of the Palace Church, the Upper Orangery, and the Old Court Room, captivate tens of thousands of visitors every year.

Internationally renowned artists and orchestras have discovered Weilburg and offer a musical palette from the Renaissance to the modern era.

With a show tunnel system, the Mining and City Museum recalls the time when Weilburg and the Lahn-Dill region were important centers of iron ore mining. Here, you can experience the mining atmosphere “live.” The City Museum’s exhibits provide information about the early and prehistory of the city and its surroundings.

Special events and artistic activities continually bring new vitality and relevance to the city’s cultural life.
